3 Days Mountain Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
The ultimate Gorilla experience - 3 Days
Come explorer one of Uganda's foremost tourist attractions, and indeed one of the world's most remarkable wildlife encounters is tracking mountain gorillas across the misty slopes of the remote Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in southwestern Uganda. The park is situated 512 Km from Kampala on the border between Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo and it was first gazetted in 1991 as a national park purposely to protect the famous, rare, and endangered mountain gorillas. Bwindi will give you a unique experience of the mountain gorillas since the park has 35 known Gorilla groups although only 17 groups have been habituated for research and open tourism. The park covers an area of 331 square kilometers with four sectors for gorilla tracking and habituation, these include, Nkuringo, Rushaga, Buhoma, and Ruhija. While trekking you be required to hike, climb through rough steep terrain hills and you will have to go deeper into the forest to locate and trek these Gorilla groups in their wild and this makes trekking the most fascinating and adventurous activity in the Park.
Due to its great forest age of over 25,000 years, species diversity is a feature of the park. It provides habitat to over 120 species of mammals like chimpanzees, blue monkey, L'Hoest's monkey, and the mountain gorilla, 357 species of birds including 23 Albertine Rift Valley endemics such as the short-tailed warbler, African green broadbill, blue-headed sunbird, etc, 220 species of frogs, chameleons, geckos, and many endangered species. Floristically, the park is among the most diverse forests in Eastern Africa, with more than 1,000 flowering plants, including 163 tree species and 104 species of ferns.
